Rivers Hoopers Crowned Nigeria Basketball League Champions for the Sixth Time

Rivers Hoopers have etched their name further into Nigerian basketball history by claiming their sixth Nigeria Basketball League title. The Port Harcourt-based team emerged victorious after a commanding 71-54 win against Hoops & Read in the finals held yesterday, successfully defending the title they won last season.

The triumph marks another milestone for the Hoopers, who have now claimed the national championship in 2011, 2012, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2024. With this victory, the Rivers Hoopers also secured a spot in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) for the third time, cementing their status as one of the continent’s elite teams.

The Hoopers’ road to glory was not without its challenges, both on and off the court. However, the team showcased resilience and determination throughout the league season, culminating in a dominant performance in the finals against a spirited Hoops & Read side.

Hoops & Read, who finished as runners-up, put up a commendable fight but could not match the tactical brilliance and scoring prowess of the Hoopers. Gboko City secured third place, while Nile University rounded off the top four. With this victory, Rivers Hoopers will represent Nigeria at the prestigious Basketball Africa League (BAL) in 2025. The team’s previous outings in the BAL have been a source of pride for Nigerian basketball, and they will aim to improve upon their past performances on the continental stage.

The Hoopers’ dominance in Nigerian basketball is unparalleled, and this latest achievement underscores their commitment to excellence. Team officials, players, and fans alike have celebrated the victory as another step in their mission to elevate the sport in Nigeria and beyond.

As the team prepares for the BAL 2025, Rivers Hoopers will undoubtedly aim to build on their domestic success to make a strong impact on the African stage. For now, the sweet taste of victory resonates, as the champions bask in the glory of yet another remarkable season.
