CAF U-17 AFCON: Gambia Hit Somalia for Five as Mali Stay Perfect in Group D

The CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations continues to deliver excitement as the group stage heats up with more crucial results. The latest round of matches saw goals, drama, and red cards as teams battle for spots in the knockout stage.

In Group D, Mali maintained their perfect start with a solid 2-0 victory over Central African Republic, who ended the game with 10 men after a red card further dented their hopes. The win sees Mali sit comfortably at the top of the group with six points from two matches.

Elsewhere in the group, Angola and Ivory Coast played out a goalless draw. The result keeps Ivory Coast in second place with four points, while Angola remain third with just one point and a tough road ahead to progress.

Group D Standings:

  1. Mali – 6 pts (2W, 0D, 0L)

  2. Ivory Coast – 4 pts (1W, 1D, 0L)

  3. Angola – 1 pt (0W, 1D, 1L)

  4. Central African Republic – 0 pts (0W, 0D, 2L)

In Group C, Gambia bounced back emphatically with a 5-1 demolition of Somalia, reigniting their campaign after a previous loss. Somalia, meanwhile, remain winless and at the bottom of the group with a disappointing defensive record, having conceded eight goals in two games.

The much-anticipated clash between Tunisia and Senegal ended in a tense 0-0 stalemate, with both sides unable to break the deadlock. That result means both teams remain unbeaten and are tied on four points, with Tunisia narrowly ahead on goal difference.

Group C Standings:

  1. Tunisia – 4 pts (1W, 1D) | GD: +3

  2. Senegal – 4 pts (1W, 1D) | GD: +1

  3. Gambia – 3 pts (1W, 1L)

  4. Somalia – 0 pts (0W, 2L)

With one more group game to go for each team, the race for quarterfinal qualification is heating up. Fans can expect more thrilling action as Africa’s next generation of stars continues to shine on the continental stage.
