Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Cape Verde Reach Semi-Finals of 2025 African Men’s Handball Championship in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – The 2025 African Men’s Handball Championship has reached an electrifying semi-final stage following a series of decisive quarter-final clashes at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Powerhouses Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria, alongside emerging force Cape Verde, have booked their spots in the last four, showcasing the ever-growing depth of handball talent on the African continent.



Quarter-Final Recap

Egypt, the record champions, sent a strong message to their continental rivals with a commanding 37–25 win over Angola. The Pharaohs displayed fluid attacking movements and a disciplined defence to maintain their status as favourites for the title.

Algeria joined their North African neighbours in the semis after overpowering the Democratic Republic of Congo 36–23. The Algerians controlled the tempo from the outset, capitalizing on fast breaks and forcing turnovers to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the contest.

Tunisia, another perennial contender, cruised to a 37–24 victory over Guinea in a match that highlighted their experience and tactical prowess. The Eagles of Carthage are now aiming for their 11th continental final.

Meanwhile, Cape Verde pulled off a notable triumph with a 31–22 win over Morocco. The island nation continues to rise in African handball circles, and their semi-final qualification marks a new milestone in their sporting history.

Semi-Final Showdowns Set

The semi-final fixtures promise high-octane drama as regional giants clash:

  • Egypt vs. Cape Verde

  • Algeria vs. Tunisia

Both matches will be played in Abuja, with dates and times to be confirmed by the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB). The winners will move one step closer to continental glory, while the losers will battle for third place.

Road to the Final

The final, also scheduled to take place in Abuja, will crown Africa’s best men’s handball team. With each remaining side bringing a unique blend of flair, discipline, and ambition, the race to the title is wide open.

This year’s championship has not only celebrated elite handball but also underlined the sport’s rising profile across Africa. Host nation Nigeria, though not among the final four, has been lauded for its vibrant support and excellent organization.
