WNBA and Players’ Union Meet in Push to Advance Stalled CBA Talks

The WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) held a three‑hour in‑person meeting in New York on Monday, marking the first direct negotiations since October as both sides seek to break a stalemate over the league’s next collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

League and union officials described the session as constructive, though no immediate breakthrough was reported. Key issues remain unresolved, including revenue sharing, salary structures, housing, and professional standards such as staffing and facilities. Players have been pushing for a larger share of league revenue and expanded benefits, while the league has offered more modest increases and a different revenue‑sharing framework.

WNBPA president Nneka Ogwumike and other union leaders represented players during the discussions, which involved more than 40 participants from across the league. Sources close to the talks described the meeting as “helpful,” but emphasized that further negotiations will be necessary to reach a formal agreement ahead of the 2026 season, which is scheduled to tip off in May.

The ongoing stall has affected offseason activity, with free agency and other league operations still on hold. Both sides face increasing pressure to convert the dialogue into concrete proposals, with a labor strike or other measures remaining as possible options if an agreement cannot be reached.

As the WNBA and its players work to bridge their differences, fans and stakeholders await a resolution that could shape the league’s growth, player earnings, and professional standards for years to come.
