With anticipation building ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, South Africa has officially revealed the colours that will carry its hopes on the global stage. The South African Football Association (SAFA), in partnership with adidas, has unveiled the new 2026/27 home jersey for both the men’s national team, South Africa national football team, and the reigning African champions, South Africa women's national soccer team.
The jersey, available to fans from 20 March 2026, marks a deliberate return to the iconic yellow and green palette that defined South Africa’s appearance at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. That tournament remains one of the proudest moments in the nation’s sporting history, and the new strip draws clear inspiration from that era while embracing a modern aesthetic fit for football’s evolving stage.
Beyond its bold colours, the design carries deeper meaning. Subtle graphic details embedded into the fabric pay tribute to South Africa’s 12 official languages — a visual celebration of unity, diversity and national identity. According to adidas South Africa’s Senior Marketing Director, Tom Brown, the concept was built around honouring the legacy of 2010 while projecting confidence for the future.
Technically, the jersey is powered by adidas’ latest CLIMACOOL+ innovation, incorporating 3D body mapping and strategically placed mesh panels to enhance airflow and comfort. The performance-driven construction ensures that players remain cool and agile in high-intensity conditions — a crucial factor with major tournaments looming.
SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao described the unveiling as more than a routine kit launch. She emphasised that the jersey represents a shared symbol for players and supporters alike, reinforcing the federation’s commitment to elevating both the men’s and women’s national teams on equal footing.
Supporters will see the new colours in action soon. Banyana Banyana are set to debut the kit at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, while Bafana Bafana will wear it as they continue their World Cup journey, beginning with a high-profile clash against Mexico.
An away kit reveal is scheduled for 19 March 2026, with early indications suggesting a deep green base complemented by yellow accents — an inverted twist on the traditional look. Replica versions are expected to retail around €100/£85, with authentic player-edition shirts priced higher.
For fans from the townships to the diaspora, this jersey represents more than fabric and stitching. It is a statement of heritage and ambition — a reminder that as South Africa prepares to compete on the world’s biggest stage once again, it does so wrapped in colours that tell a powerful national story.
