2025 U-20 AFCON Draw: Nigeria to Face Morocco, Senegal Drawn with Ghana

The stage is officially set for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following the final draw held on Saturday, April 13, in Cairo, Egypt. The biennial tournament will take place from April 27 to May 18, 2025, bringing together some of the continent’s most promising young talents.

Thirteen nations have qualified for this edition, which is set to be hosted by Egypt. Due to the number of participants, CAF divided the teams into three groups—Group A featuring five teams, while Groups B and C consist of four teams each.

Road to the FIFA U-20 World Cup

In addition to continental glory, this year’s U-20 AFCON serves as the qualifying tournament for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to take place later in 2025 in Chile. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals. The four semi-finalists will earn automatic qualification to the World Cup.

Reigning champions Senegal are aiming to defend their title, but they face stiff competition from a resurgent Ghana side in Group C. Nigeria, the most successful team in the tournament’s history with seven titles, have been drawn in Group B alongside Morocco—a matchup that promises fireworks.

Other past champions in the mix include Egypt, Ghana, Zambia, and Morocco, making this year’s edition one of the most competitive in recent memory.

With continental pride and World Cup tickets on the line, the 2025 U-20 AFCON promises to deliver exciting fixtures and unearth the next generation of African football stars.
