CAF Club Competitions Reach Climax as Finalists Emerge in Champions League and Confederation Cup

The stage is officially set for the finals of Africa's top club football competitions after an exhilarating round of semi-final matches in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, played between April 18 and April 27, 2025. The weekend’s results confirmed the finalists who will now battle for continental glory next month.

In the Champions League semi-finals, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa edged past Al Ahly of Egypt on the away goals rule after a tightly contested 1–1 aggregate draw. The South Africans earned a valuable 0–0 result in Cairo during the first leg, then managed a 1–1 draw at home in Pretoria, which was enough to seal their progression to yet another final.

Joining them in the final is Pyramids FC, who made history by reaching their first-ever CAF Champions League final. The Egyptian side outlasted Orlando Pirates of South Africa 3–2 on aggregate, showcasing resilience and ambition in both legs of the semi-final clash.

This sets up a mouthwatering final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC:

  • First Leg: May 24, 2025 – Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria

  • Second Leg: June 1, 2025 – 30 June Stadium, Cairo

In the Confederation Cup, RS Berkane of Morocco continued their impressive record in the competition by eliminating Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas 4–1 on aggregate. The 2020 and 2022 champions look poised for another title push following their dominant semi-final performance.

Simba SC of Tanzania joined them in the final after narrowly overcoming CS Constantine of Algeria 1–0 on aggregate. Simba held their nerve in both legs, showcasing tactical discipline and defensive solidity to book their spot in the final.

The Confederation Cup final will see RS Berkane take on Simba SC:

  • First Leg: May 17, 2025

  • Second Leg: May 25, 2025

Both finals bring together clubs with contrasting histories—powerhouses and debutants—offering fans across the continent a rich blend of tradition and ambition. Mamelodi Sundowns will look to add another continental crown to their cabinet, while Pyramids FC aim to make history. In the Confederation Cup, RS Berkane are seeking a third title, while Simba SC hope to win their maiden continental trophy.

With everything on the line, African football fans can look forward to a thrilling climax to the 2024/25 CAF club competitions.
